Blair Schulman is an art writer, critic, and independent curator.
In 2021, he created Midwest Agenda, a directory for art and artists in the Midwest providing art news, announcements, exhibition listings and other arts-related projects. Listing is free because art in the Midwest matters.
For five years, he was Managing Editor of InformalityBlog.com, a web-based platform discussing art and artists in the Kansas City region.
Blair’s writing has appeared in Art in America, HuffPost Culture & Arts. Hyperallergic, Kansas City Star, KC Magazine, Juxtapoz, VICE, among others. He was a longtime contributor to the late Review magazine.
Selected curating projects discuss the social issues of HIV/AIDS and the history of cruising for sex.
In 2015, he co-developed Guerrilla Docents, a social art practice engaging strangers off the street, taking them into galleries to discuss art where the opportunity might not otherwise be present.
Blair was a 2012 Fellow with the Oklahoma Art Writing and Curatorial Fellowship presented by OVAC (Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition) and the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
Born and raised in New York City, Blair is now based in Kansas City with his three dogs, Ricky, Joni and Stevie.
